THIS article about the "Group Tatting" from City Church's birthday bash has made this a particularly exciting week in my life. It's been fun to watch the story unfold and God spread it around the world. If you haven't seen the articles, google my name. It's insane.I want to write to share a few things...
How am I doing?
Truthfully, I'm struggling to keep my head above water. Prayers would be appreciated. Having said that...I WOULD NOT CHANGE A THING! All of us who call City Church "home" should be PROUD of what He did through us and I'm excited about how God is using this story from Anaheim all the way to Russia.
Because of our gathering of 200 people and a few tattoos, people are talking about Jesus who normally would not. THAT gets me excited.
Remember... THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING! There's years of ministry ahead. I want to encourage us to press on!
Will this "change" City Church?
My answer to that is... it depends on what you mean.
If "change" means "might there be more people who attend our service and grow in their relationship with Christ because of this"? Then yes. I hope so. The goal of our ministry is to bring lots of people to Jesus. Anyone is welcome. We will always be that way. We will always be the "church for people who don't like church."
But if by "change" you mean "will we compromise our beliefs or core DNA because of this"? Then, the answer is ABSOLUTELY NOT. We are who we are in Christ. The only difference is that we might be a little bigger, we might have more people to celebrate with, and some more people have tattoos. That's it! :)
Also, I am still who I am. Nothing will ever change the love in my heart for my Savior, my wife, and you, my trusted friends. I take being your pastor seriously. It's my pride and passion in life. That will NEVER change.
A word of thanks...
Lastly, I am very grateful to the OC Register and Jeff Overly (the writer) for providing great coverage of the event, being willing to tackle our story, and putting City Church on the map.
Hope to see you Sunday! I already can't wait for what God is going to do.
