City Church @ Chain Reaction, ANAHEIM
So, here's the update. We had an awesome vision night for City Church Friday July 24th with over 100 people; and we saw 21 new decisions to make Jesus the Lord of peoples' lives. The night was beautiful; and it was a great time of fellowship and vision for this new movement of God called City Church.
The whole night, I had a desire and urging for us to move into a secular space like a night club or a rock venue. I kept questioning it because we already had a venue, kids ministry, and everything else we could ever need on on Crystal Cathedral's campus. I was obedient and checked out a few venues; and honestly... they were DUMPS. After visiting two horrible options,(one of them had a stripper pole in the middle of the stage... not gonna work for church...), one of our congregants Cesar told me to check out this venue called CHAIN REACTION.
Cesar & I went to the venue, met the owner, and I shared my heart for Anaheim with him and his wife. They were moved; and they have offered us their venue FREE OF CHARGE!!! After that, a very close friend made a very significant donation to help us get started. So... with all that, I feel that God is making it as obvious as He can that we're supposed to GO.
Why would we leave the "safety" of Crystal Cathedral? Some people are called to maintain, update, & renovate things. For me, I know I am called to be an innovator. The gospel of Christ compels me to do 2 things...
1. GO & make disciples where Jesus is not Lord.
2. Not to build on another man's foundation (Romans 15:20). READ IT HERE.
Apart from the Biblical reason to GO, I am responding to this call because it's obvious throughout history that nothing great ever arose from safety. Danger creates opportunity. Risks create rewards. Inherent in the concept of a "risk" is the possibility of failure; but Lisa & I feel we have enough evidence from God His calling here.
So... last week I handed in my 2 weeks notice at Crystal Cathedral (yes that means no more income); and they are sending us with complete blessing. In fact, Crystal Cathedral is so supportive of me that they are shutting down C3 & encouraging people to GO with us. Praise God!
Now, it's up to us to respond. We hope to launch in September. Check out our website www.lovehopecity.com.
